Recently, two young stars have been on the rise with the premiere of Divergent, Miles Teller and Shailene Woodley. But before their big break, the two stars were lovers in the 2012 movie, The Spectacular Now.
The Spectacular Now follows a party driven individual named Sutter. After getting wasted at a party, he is bought back to earth by the school dork, Amy and each slowly release that while neither of them are perfect, they may just be perfect for each other.
If The Spectacular Now only had one thing going for it, it would be the actors it has. Though the two main characters portrayed by Woodley and Teller are only huge names now, the entire cast are incredibly underrated. While looking from an outsider’s perspective, the film would seem to simply be the ‘been there, done that’ film however, in saying this, the movie skips all the clichés of this genre. Woodley and Teller bring a whole new aspect to the genre, a for the first time, the audience is able to connect on a deeper level, even the strange awkward moments simply make it easier to connect with.
My only problem was that the film was a little slow and while this made the end goal even sweeter, the film loses a lot of its audience by not getting to the point in the first half.
The Spectacular Now is a warm, funny and heart wrenching coming of age film for all ages.
